I learned from that experience to always take the chance when it comes around because they don’t come often and when they do, they don’t always turn out perfect but if you hesitate, waffle, you end up doing nothing and accomplishing even less.
It was 1980 I was a college student at NYU bartending at Syncopation Jazz Club on Waverly. One day my elementary school girlfriend waltzed in, I asked my boss if I could sit in with the legendary Albert Dailey... The album Renaissance features Albert on Piano; Carter Jefferson on Tenor and Soprano Sax; Cheryl Alexander on Vocals; Cecil McBee on Bass; Charlie Persip on Drums with Adam Nussbaum handling the drum kit duties on a couple of tracks on this out-of-print short lived Catalyst label.
